Purpose Of The Symposium
Having the custom of handling undiscussed subject in respect with an academic point of view, Bingöl University will discuss “Alawism from past to present” in this symposium.
This symposium aims to bring together a lot of academics and researchers all over the world including Turkey.
The need to address the issue of Alawism in detail and away from prejudice and political anxiety has made it necessary to organize this symposium. The symposium will be able to provide an academic base to deal with many undiscussed issues which are hesistated to tackle with.
The purpose of the symposium is to produce academic knowledge about Alevism –which makes up the agenda in Turkish public opinion for a long time, and is among the common subjects which people speak about –reinforce, strenghten, share and contribute to the understanding of the cultured data.

Symposium Topics
1)Historical Process: Historical origins of the Alewi-Sunni issues in the process of History of Islam and afterwords, The relations between Alevism and Safavids in Anatolia, Alevisim and Bektashism in the Ottoman Era, Alevisim and Bektashism during Turkey Republican Period, Alevi workshops, Director of Religious Affairs, Cem House and religion lessons.
2)Belief and Institutions: Basic principles of Alawisim like Four Gate and Forty Level etc, the, basic prayers and rituals in Alewism, Sultan Newroz, fondness and companionship in Alawisim, the institution of Alewi leaders and society system.
3)Literaturate and Music: Alevisim and Bektashism grands, written source of Alevisim: behest, dervish orders, cönk, minstrelsy/ozanlık (poet) tradition, Alevi-Bektashi Semahs.
4)Belief, worship, music, semah (holy dance), deyiş (a kind of chant) ,thought, great personalities and places.

Deadline of Abstract Submission: 31 May 2013
Deadline of Acceptance Notification: 15 June 2013
Deadline of Delivery of Papers: 15 September 2013
Date of the Congress: 3-5 October 2013

Terms of Participation
1. Submitted paper must contain original unpublished work which is not being submitted for publication elsewhere.
2. Abstracts must be clear and must not be more than 200-250 words.
3. Abstracts should be sent to aleviliksempozyumu@gmail.com
4. The full texts must be between 10-20 pages.
5. The presentations will not exceed 20 minutes long.
6. Presentations can be made in Turkish, Kurdish, Zaza, Persian, Arabic, English, French and German.
7. Presentations other than in Turkish will be simultaneously translated.
8. If presentations will be made in another language other than Turkish, the short presentation text must be sent to the committee 7 days before the symposium date.
9. Applications will be made through just the mail address given. Posted applications will not be taken into consideration.
10. The accommodation and subsistence of those whose presentations are accepted will be met by our university.

Announcement Rules
1. Abstracts of the announcements and original texts should be written in 12 punto and in 1,5 line space. Title of the notice should be written in 12 punto and footnotes should be in 10 punto.

2. Title of the announcement should be centered on the top of the first page in bold capital letters. Author names should be written on the right column with first letters of their names in capitals, and surnames in bold and capital letters; author institutions and e-mail addresses should be written on bottom of the page with (*) special sign

3. Main titles should be left aligned in bold and capital letters. Second or third degree titles (1.1, 1.1.1.) should be bold and left aligned with only their first letters’ in capital and titles should not be made automatically. Main text should be leaned to both sides, there should not be space between paragraphs, and first line of the paragraphs should be indented by 0.75

4. Footnotes; should be in text with numbers in classical style or with APA technique. Explanatory information on the page should be placed on bottom of the page as footnotes. Discussions, criticisms and explanations should be specified in footnotes. Bibliography should be given at the end of the announcement.

5. Rules for footnote writing:
a.If it is a book, firstly name and surname of the author and then respectively full title of the book in italic, if any volume number, place and date of publication, and the page number should be given. If the same book is mentioned again, the title of the book abbreviated if it is possible to abbreviate it, then only number of the page is given. Abbreviations like op. cit. should not be used in footnotes.

b.If APA technique is used, firstly surname of the author, date of publication and page number should be given with commas between each.

c.If it is an article, then author name, surname, title of the article in inverted commas (“”), periodical’s full name, volume and serial number, place and date of publication and page number should be given. In bibliography, the article should be written as the same style; additionally, the first and the last pages of the article in periodical should be given. The same style should be followed in using the encyclopaedia items.

6. Helper writing techniques like chart, map, graphic, sketch should not be handwritten, they should be prepared duly on computer or by template. If maps and charts are given in appendix, references made to them in texts. Pictures utilized in the text should be used in the same style.

7. Appendixes like chart, map, graphic, sketch should be numbered. All shapes and graphics should be numbered in themselves and below the shape or graphics by sequence number; and charts too in itself should be numbered and named above the chart. Chart, graphic and shape titles should be centered and written in bold with only their first letters in capitals. Source of the charts, graphics and shapes, if any, should be given right below the charts, graphics and shapes according to the rules for references in text. All graphics, shapes, charts and pictures should be placed in announcement, and should not be submitted in separated files.

8. Announcements should not exceed 20 pages including the appendixes, and there should be 2.5 cm blank from left and right edge.
